
Community Service
Service is woven into the fabric of life at Veritas Christian Academy. One of the most important goals we have is to inculcate within our students a desire to engage in quiet servanthood; therefore, we have given our students many opportunities to serve those within our community. Here is a sampling of the service projects in which our students have participated and in which they continue to serve:
Lower School Service Projects
• Adopted nine local families and provided them with items
at Christmas, including warm clothing, toys, items for
personal hygiene, and food
• Collected over 500 bags of individually wrapped candy for
distribution at the Boys and Girls Club of America during
their Fall Festival
• Collected 373 teddy bears and other stuffed animals and
donated them to law enforcement agencies to give to children
during traumatic situations
• Bringing food to restock the St. Barnabas Catholic Church
Food Pantry for Thanksgiving
• Helping the Asheville Pregnancy Support Center by
collecting baby clothes, diapers, wipes, toiletries, diaper
bags, small toys, and bibs for these precious gifts from God
• Conducting food drives for Manna Food Bank
• Visiting nursing homes and singing on special days, such
as Valentine's Day
• Assisted the Presbyterian Children's Home
• Collected coats to be distributed to needy families through
Asheville-Buncombe Christian Community Ministry
• Collected pennies and other change for Penny Praise for
Hurricane Katrina Relief through Samaritan's Purse
• Participated in Operation Christmas Child, choosing
appropriate gifts and toiletries and placing them in shoe
boxes for children in other parts of the world
• Provided backpacks for needy children attending the
public school system
• Prepared age appropriate tote bags for children of mothers
undergoing chemotherapy
• Prepared letters, amassing phone cards, and sending boxes
to the soldiers serving our country in Iraq
Upper School Service Projects
• Adopted nine local families and provided them with items
at Christmas, including warm clothing, toys, items for
personal hygiene, and food

to clean and restock shelves
• Collecting coats to be distributed to the homeless in the
Asheville area through WNC Rescue Mission
• Collecting food for the St. Barnabas Catholic Church Food
Pantry
• Middle School girls provide and decorate Christmas trees and
prepare a special meal for the residents of the Asheville
Women's Shelter. They also provide gifts for the women and
children.
• Cleaning homes, raking leaves, hauling debris, and making
repairs for the elderly in Henderson County through Habitat
for Humanity
• Middle School boys ministered to those at the Asheville Men's
Veteran's Mission, writing individual letters to each veteran
thanking each one for his service to our community. The
boys also prepared a soup and sandwich lunch for these
deserving men and presented them with large baskets of
toiletries, magazines, and books.
• Prepared and decorated tote bags with creative art work and
filling them with a specially made card, devotional book,
hand lotion, lip balm and many other useful items for women
undergoing chemotherapy through HOPE: A Cancer Center
For Women
• Cleaned and reorganized the warehouse for Asheville-
Buncombe Christian Community Ministry in preparation
for the holiday season
• Served meals at the Rescue Mission
• Helped the Skyland Fire Department by cleaning the bays,
washing the trucks, blowing leaves from the parking lots
and grounds, and cleaning the entire building for an annual
event
• Raised funds for the Eblen Foundation, which helps families
in Western North Carolina with medical and other needs
• Middle School students made and sent Christmas cards the
troops in Iraq. They also sent bags of candy for the soldiers to
give to the children in Iraq.
