Class of 2005
I have survived another adventure. This one taking me to the mountains of Montana to teach for a month on a Native American Reservation. There were many challenges and struggles but they were all learning experiences. I am an elementary education major at Berea College in Kentucky. I will be continuing work with a tutoring program this semester as well as starting up a new program to combat youth delinquency in the surrounding areas. My schedule is a full one this semester and look forward to the break during the summer when I will be doing research on child development. Who knows what new adventures are in store. Hope that you all are well. If you would like to get a hold of me please do so via e-mail at baunackm@berea.edu Enjoy the rest of the school year. -

Class of 2006
Alyssa Hansen
Hi, my name is Alyssa Hansen. I graduated from Veritas in the class of 2006. I just wanted to fill everyone in on what i did on my spring break:
I'm double majoring in International Development and International Economics at American University in Washington, DC. Going to school in the nation's capitol has been amazing. I'm exposed daily to great art, history, and science in the museums on the National Mall and the cultural opportunities offered around DC. But I've also become aware of the growing homeless population that lives on our streets. This past spring break I participated in an Alternative Break trip to-- DC! where I slept on the streets near Chinatown for two nights, living in isolated groups with fellow students and actual homeless. I learned the lessons of poverty and of the streets- no one looks you in the eye when you are begging for change, all you think about is where your next meal is coming from, and you look out for other homeless like they're your true family. My Alt Break group also focused on housing and gentrification issues in DC. We met with local non-profits, homeless advocates, and the mayor's representatives to discuss the housing crisis amongst us. We also toured homeless shelters that the DC government is tearing down and selling to developers for major profits. Apart from the educational/humanitarian aspect of my trip, I got to spend a week bonding with people very different from myself. I was on a vegan diet, met anarchists, and had discussions on Christianity and pan-sexuality. This was an amazing experience in my life and I encourage all current Veritas students to challenge themselves after high school by seeking new experiences in uncomfprtable situations.
Kathleen Moore
I'm a double major in Philosophy and Classical Philology right now (though the Philology might turn into just Classics). Hopefully, I'll be volunteering at an orphanage nearby soon. I'm studying abroad in Rome for the Spring semester of 2008. I love the University of Dallas, but I miss Veritas and the people there greatly. I'm playing intramural volleyball and waiting for
prospective students to come down to visit! U.D. is basically a Catholic college version of Veritas, so if any of the high schoolers are interested, let me know! I'll be home over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. That's about all for now...Hope everyone is doing well!!
P.S.-I'm writing a research paper on piety in Ancient Rome right now, so if anyone has any suggestions of books/articles, let me know!!
