Learning about Freedom in a Christ-Centered Classical School

Without getting into the particulars, as there are lots of particulars, it is a great good to occasionally be reminded of the qualities that make Classical Christian education what it is. I love teaching Civics. As a class studying both the meaning of government and the meaning of being a citizen in a country such as ours is a joy. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to check out one of the finest resources for Civic education available online. You may want to purchase and enjoy the book featured in this online resource--What So Proudly We Hail: The American Soul in Story, Speech, and Song

While no school experiences absolute freedom (that is anyone can do whatever he or she wants anytime--THANKFULLY), we, at Veritas, have freedoms we should not take for granted. Classical Christian schools are not restricted by the ever increasing laws and ordinances in the public school sector. Public schools are always striving to please whatever winds and waves are in motion.

Of the most “controversial” matters that has recently hit North Carolina public schools is “the Parents' Bill of Rights.” Essentially, it is controversial because parents want to know about major life changing decisions their children make at school and some want to protect the “children’s right to privacy” including even some privacy from parents.

The relationship between parents and Veritas is one of covenant. We have entered into a covenant partnership with all parents, students, and staff to create a Christ-centered learning environment and we seek to all order our affections according to Kingdom standards. We have the glorious freedom that Christ gives His people. We set as our daily priority to love God with all of who we are and we strive to love our neighbor as ourselves. I am grateful to be part of a community where our mutual freedoms build up one another and do not make for an atmosphere of chaos. May our love for Christ and one another reign over our freedoms as Veritas.
