Veritas Students Mark Anniversary of Hurricane Helene with Annual Day of Service

Fletcher, NC - On October 3, more than 500 students, faculty, and parent volunteers from Veritas Christian Academy took part in the school’s annual “Salt & Light” Serve-a-thon. The beloved tradition returns after being paused last year in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

The Salt & Light event dedicates a half day to service projects across Henderson and Buncombe counties. Students set aside their usual schedules to offer support, encouragement, and ministry to the wider community.

Adam Guice, Vice President of Veritas’s Parent Teacher Fellowship, and his team organized a full and meaningful agenda of service projects for students, both on campus and throughout the community.

“After taking a year off to focus on the devastation from Hurricane Helene last September. Veritas Christian Academy will begin its annual service-oriented day again on October 3rd. We call it ‘Salt & Light,’ because we want others to see the light of Christ through those participating.  Not only are we able to bless others in our community, but our students, faculty, and parents get to receive a blessing from serving others.” Salt & Light Chairperson, Adam Guice, said. “We want our students to learn the value of community service, which includes on campus and off campus projects, allowing students to see the difference they could make by partnering with local, regional, and international agencies. We look forward to a great day of serving together.”

Callie Stage, a senior at Veritas, feels fortunate to work with her fellow classmates to serve her community.

“The opportunity to serve all together as a school creates a deep sense of community. Faculty members, students, and parent volunteers all put aside the day to do work that is glorifying God,” Stage said. “Reflecting on where we all were this time last year makes us feel more blessed than ever to be able to come to school and devote this day to loving and serving others.”

This year Veritas students, ranging from age four to seventeen, volunteered and served at the following community organizations: Advent Health, Eblen Charities, Fleshers Fairview Health & Retirement Center, Interfaith Assistance Ministry, Kairos Ministry: Sharing Love with Incarcerated Women, Samaritan's Purse: Operation Christmas Child, The Family Place, Trinity of Fairview Food Pantry, and Veterans Healing Farm.  They also be worked on trail enhancements and beautification projects on campus.
